A while ago I wrote a three-part series of articles on choosing color schemes for your scrapbook layouts.
They turned out to be quite popular and still receive a high number of visitors.
Well I’ve just come across this really cool new tool for creating your own color schemes.
It’s called ColoRotate and it’s so new that it’s still in beta testing.
The folk behind this tool seem to have taken a lot of trouble to really delve into the history and analysis of what color is all about and they’ve put together an educational site that is easy to read, a little bit interactive (and that’s always fun) and absolutely packed with everything you’ve ever wanted to know about color but were afraid to ask.
The basic premise behind what they’re saying, and the color tool they’ve developed, is that we tend to think of color as a 2-dimensional thing when it should really be treated as a 3-dimensional thing.
Now I’m not even going to try to explain that to you. You should read about it for yourself at the ColoRotate Learn About Color site. There’s some really cool information there and you’re sure to discover something you didn’t know about color. I know I did.
And then when you’ve finished learning all about the mysteries of color, click over and try out the ColoRotate Tool.
There are a heap of pre-defined color pallets for you to choose from. But the really fun thing is to create your own with the very cool 3-dimensional color diamond. There’s a sample tool for you to play around with, but if you register for a FREE account with them, you can get a lot more out of the tool and you can save your favorite pallets for sharing or for later use.
When you have created the color scheme you want, you can click on a button to get the color code for each color so you can use it in your own scrapbooking program (eg. Photoshop Elements etc).
I should give you a warning here.
This is a real time soak. You will be amazed at how much time you will spend playing with this. Just make sure you leave enough time to create your scrapbook layouts too.
