Thanksgiving Word Art

Another digital scrapbook freebie

According to my Google Analytics stats the majority of my readers live in the US.

So I thought I’d make some Word Art to commemorate your Thanksgiving holiday.

This isn’t a holiday that we celebrate in Australia but I think it’s always a good thing to stop, think and give thanks for what we have and who we are.

So here’s my gift for Thanksgiving.

Just click on the image to open the PNG file and then save it to your computer. That way you’ll get the high resolution version and not just the web sized image.

And make sure you come back to Scraps of Mind on December 1st because I’ll have a digital scrapbooking Christmas freebie and links to the Worldwide Digital Scrapbooking Christmas Freebie blog train which will give you a wonderland of Christmas freebies.

Free Scrapbooking Recipe Card– Fruity Chocolate Fudge

Digital scrapbooking freebie

Want to make something extra yummy and deliciously decadent?

Well you can’t go past this super dooper Fruity Chocolate Fudge (recipe credit to my friend Carly).

This fudge is of Willy Wonka-esque yummyness and best of all … it’s easy peasy to make.

You can download the recipe card I’ve made and print it out. It goes with the other pages in the Scraps of Mind Yummy Treats Free Scrapbooking Recipe Book. There are links to some other free scrapbooking recipe cards at the bottom of this post. So if you haven’t got your set then start clicking.

I created the background by blending two of the Garden Party Scrapbook Freebie papers together using the Color Burn blending mode. It’s well worth playing around with the blending modes when you’re creating scrapbook backgrounds I think. It adds an extra layer of depth to your layout.

And it can make a big impact to the colors too. Believe it or not the original papers I used were pink and green!  If you want to know more about blending papers together you can check out my Step by Step Digital Scrapbook Tutorial which shows you what it’s all about and how to do it.

Free Halloween Wort Art

Digital scrapbooking freebies

Well we’re coming up to that popcorn and pumpkin time of year.

And whilst I’m gobsmacked at how quickly this year has sped by, I’m really looking forward to the next one because there’s a lot of good stuff in plan for 2013.

But before we get there we’ve got a few milestones still to go in 2012.

Halloween being one of them.

So I thought I’d give you some Halloween word art in plenty of time for you to use it on your party invitations or your Halloween cards. Or even to use as decoration.

To download the word art just right mouse click on the image and choose Save Target as… or Save Link as…

Don’t forget, you can use your graphics editing software to resize or recolor the word art so that it suits the color scheme of whatever you’re using it for.

And if you’d like to have a go at making you own word art, here’s a video I made to show you how to do it.

But back to Halloween word art

Here are another couple of pieces of free Halloween Word Art you might like.

Digital Scrapbook Freebie Collection

I realised the other day that I’ve been writing Scraps of Mind for over six and a half years!

In the world of blogging that’s a very long time. I started a clean up of my Favorites/Bookmarks list and was amazed at how many sites I used to visit a few years ago are no longer in operation today.

And over this journey I’ve had the pleasure of giving you a fair few scrapbook freebies.

So I’ve had a rummage in the archives and collected a bunch of Scraps of Mind freebies that are still available on this site.

So without further ado, I bring you

Drum roll please…

Scrapbook Overlays

Garden Party Digital Scrapbook Freebie

Digital scrapbook overlays are one of the most versatile elements you can use.

They can take a plain paper and dress it up.

They can add a whole new level of dimension to a layout

They can help to unify and ground your scrapbook  layout design by providing an all round border.

They can be blended using the blending mode function in your graphics editing software to create heaps of different looks.

The list goes on. But I think you probably get the idea.

I like scrapbook overlays.

So I was a bit surprised when I discovered that I hadn’t included one in the Free Garden Party Mega Kit (if you’re not a member of  The Garden Party you can see what it’s about here).

… until now.

Don’t know how to use it?

Well here are some ideas

First drag the overlay onto your layout. (Tip: Hold the control key down whilst you drag. You’ll keep a better grip on it that way.)

  • You can recolor it by using the change color function in your software (Enhance>Adjust Color>Adjust Hue.Saturation in Photoshop Elements).
  • You can adjust the opacity to make it a softer border.
  • You can add a shadow to give it some extra dimension.
  • You can play with the blending modes in your software to change the look and feel of it. In the scrapbook layout below I’ve used the Luminosity blending mode to get this soft look.

  • You can do various combinations of the above. You might find that some actions will cancel out others. For example if you add a shadow after you’ve chosen a blending mode your overlay will revert back to Normal. Add your shadow first and then add the blending mode.
  • You can drag it down to the size of your photo and sit it on top to make a soft translucent frame.

And if you’ve never used overlays before I have a couple of video tutorials that will give you step by step help as well as showing you lots of other cool digital scrapbooking techniques. You can check them out here: Intermediate Tutorial 3 and Advanced Tutorial 4

They each come with their own complimentary digital scrapbooking kit which includes at least one overlay.

I hope you enjoy playing with the Garden Party Overlay. And please do upload a copy of any scrapbook layouts or cards that you make with it to the Garden Party Facebook Page.

Let me know what you think. And please share this on Facebook or Twitter or wherever you talk with other scrapbookers.
